Herbal medicines pushed

Negros Oriental Gov. Emilio Macias II yesterday ordered the reintegration of the Herbal Medicine Program in the vegetable production thrust of the provincial government.

The Soils  and Water Management  Division  of  the  Provincial  Agriculture Office is formulating  schedules  and   detailed  plans  for  its Implementation,  PAO information officer  Oliver  Lemence  said.

The  program  will  be  incorporated  in the  Barangay  Agricultural  Development Centers and  the Gulayan  Palaisdaan  Alay  sa  Kabataan projects, Lemence added.

Macias encouraged the cultivation of herbal medicinal plants, as an alternative medicine.

At present  there  are  14  herbal plant  species identified  by  the  University  of  the  Philippines-Los  Baños  which can be easily used  as  alternative medicine.

Agriculture  technicians  undergo training  for  the proper  gardening  of   herbal medicinal  plants   through  organic  farming  methods.

Community members and school  heads will  also  undergo training  for    the  proper  concoction  of  herbal medicine.
