Norwalk Hospital is getting into the massage therapy business and the hospital wants you to check out that and other new offerings on Feb. 7. They are hosting a grand opening event from 7 to 11 a.m. in the Patio Room (fifth floor) that will feature demonstrations and info on Reiki, acupuncture and reflexology. Information on nutrition and supplement counseling are also available, especially concerning the Mediterranean Diet. This is all part of the hospital's Integrative Medicine Program run by Dr. Kirsten Marcus, who trained at Yale.
According to Dr. Marcus, these scientifically based integrative medicine therapies complement traditional medical care in order to help promote the healing process, but don't replace any traditional medical care.
Reiki, if you're unfamiliar with it, is a hands on healing process focusing on the energy centers of the body hailing from Japan. Demonstrations of Tai Chi, and Yoga round out the eastern medicine influences in the program.
