If someone feels hurt all over, and frequently feels exhausted. Even after numerous tests, the doctor can't find anything specifically wrong with the reports. If this sounds familiar, he or she may have Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is more common in women than in men. Previously, fibromyalgia was known by other names such as fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias. Although the intensity of the symptoms may vary, they'll probably never disappear completely. It may be reassuring to know, however, that fibromyalgia isn't progressive or life-threatening. Treatments and self-care steps can improve fibromyalgia symptoms and our general health. Signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia can vary, depending on the weather, stress, physical activity or even the time of day.

Homeopathy for Horses

July 6, 2010 |13:55 | Homeopathy  By : Team X

Homeopathy for HorsesHomeopathy for Horses is a holistic system of healing horses based on the use of highly diluted natural substances to trigger a healing response in the horse's body.

The basic principal of equine homeopathy is that any substance that can cause a disease, can also be the principle cure - "like cures like".

If given in stronger doses to a healthy horse the chosen medication would produce the symptoms the medicine is prescribed for.

Homeopathy DOA

June 8, 2010 |13:43 | Homeopathy  By : Team X

Homeopathy DOAHomeopathy is an “alternative remedy” devised in the late 18th century by a German physician, Samuel Hahnemann. It is based on the premise that “like cures like”.

However, unlike a vaccine that introduces a diminished form of a virus into a person’s body, thereby stimulating the immune system to becoming resistant to a potentially deadly dose of the virus, homeopathy.

On the other hand “works” by introducing an agent that induces similar symptoms into that person’s body and so fighting the symptoms of whatever it is that ails them.

For example, red onion is used to cure watery eyes, snake venom for stiffness, poison ivy for skin rash etc.  This is a completely unfounded premise that has no basis in science.

Homeopathic Natural Remedies

March 15, 2010 |17:21 | Homeopathy  By : Team X

Homeopathic natural remedies recognizes that symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person. Thus homeopaths do not treat physical, emotional and mental illnesses separately, but regard them as intimately connected. The common questions below explain the principles behind this holistic health system./

How does homeopathic natural remedies work?

Homeopathy will not just drive away the symptoms but also help patients deal with the cause of the illness. Prescriptions, taking into account each patient’s unique personality, are written for the individual patient not merely for the disease.

This explains why two patients with apparently similar illnesses may be treated with a different remedy. Homeopaths aim to reduce their patient’s dependence on medication and ideally, help them reach a level of health where they are no longer dependent on any remedies. What are homeopathic natural remedies made from?

Homeopathy can carry the day for asthmatics

March 8, 2010 |16:32 | Homeopathy  By : Team X

The world has so far failed to wipe out the age-old disease of asthma. According to the findings of World Health Organisation, this planet hosts as many as 300 million patients, 10 million of whom live in Pakistan.

Asthma causes more than 250,000 premature deaths every year. Efforts to control this chronic disease have witnessed only five per cent success in Asia. Asthma causes airways  the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs  to become sore and swollen. Children having smaller airways than adults are prone to worse affects.

When the airways react, during an asthmatic attack, the muscles around them tighten. This causes the airways to shrink, thus less air flows to the lungs. The swelling can also worsen, making the airways even narrower. Cells in the airways may make more mucus than normal. Mucus is a sticky, thick liquid that can further narrow the airways.

Homeopathy - Tinctures or a trick of the mind?

February 26, 2010 |13:34 | Homeopathy  By : Team X

The Royal London Homeopathic Hospital may be under siege but the staff and patients remain relaxed. There has been no run on Gelsemium, the homeopathic remedy of choice for people paralysed by fear, in the pharmacy. Indeed, the only sign of trouble is the poster affixed to a pillar in the third floor waiting area alongside the stall selling Tick Tock redbush tea – the kind Precious Ramotswe drinks in The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

"Save NHS homeopathy", it says. Another poster urges supporters to join a lobby of parliament. Long before MPs from the cross party Commons committee on science and technology gave the thumbs down to homeopathy on Monday, people here knew what was coming. The remedies worked no better than a placebo, the committee said, and the NHS should cease funding.

It was a withering verdict but the hospital remains undaunted. There are no placards or demonstrators here. Just the usual crowd of patients – predominantly middle aged and female – that you find in any hospital waiting area. Supporters of homeopathy – practitioners and patients alike – are used to controversy and another bout of negative publicity, of which there is never a shortage, is not going to change their minds.

Homeopathic Remedies for Breast Cancer

February 16, 2010 |12:33 | General Information | Homeopathy  By : Team X

A new study published in the International Journal of Oncology revealed homeopathic remedies have a beneficial effect on breast cancer cells (2010 Feb;36(2):395-403).Researchers conducted an in vitro study to determine if products prescribed by a clinic in India have any effect on breast cancer cell lines.

They studied four ultra-diluted remedies (Carcinosin, Phytolacca, Conium and Thuja) against two human breast adenocarcinoma cell lines (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231) and a cell line derived from immortalized normal human mammary epithelial cells (HMLE).

The remedies exerted preferential cytotoxic effects against the two breast cancer cell lines, causing cell cycle delay/arrest and apoptosis. These effects were accompanied by altered expression of the cell cycle regulatory proteins, including downregulation of phosphorylated Rb and upregulation of the CDK inhibitor p27, which were likely responsible for the cell cycle delay/arrest as well as induction of the apoptotic cascade that manifested in the activation of caspase 7 and cleavage of PARP in the treated cells.

Homeopathy - too much to swallow?

February 16, 2010 |12:32 | Homeopathy  By : Team X

Homeopathy - too much to swallowThroughout my career, I've stuck to a firm rule - I must be sure of the evidence before I recommend any medicine.

You won't find me backing new health claims unless they're confirmed by large, robust scientific studies.

Which is why I have a problem with so many alternative health treatments - most simply don't have adequate proof that they work.
